Social Worker

Role: Social workers help individuals, families, and communities to enhance their well-being and solve problems in their everyday lives.

Approach: SWrs provide support and counseling from a psychosocial perspective, connecting clients with resources, tailoring their approach to meet the individual and family needs, as well as embracing a global approach to health.

Scope of Practice: Broader scope including counseling, mediation, crisis intervention.

Psychotherapist

Role: Psychotherapists focus on treating mental health issues through various forms of therapy.

Education and Training: Degree in psychology, counseling, social work, or psychiatry, along with specific training in psychotherapy techniques.  Membership to the order of social workers of Quebec or the Order of psychologist of Quebec.

Approach: They use therapeutic techniques such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, and others to help clients deal with mental health issues.
Scope of Practice: Focused on individual, group, or family therapy to address psychological and emotional issues.

Sexologist

Role: sexologist help individuals achieve independence in all aspects of their lives by teaching them to perform daily tasks.

Education and Training: Requires a degree in occupational therapy (Master’s or Doctorate), and Membership to the order of occupational therapist of Quebec.
Approach: They assess and provide interventions to improve the client’s ability to perform daily activities and work, often using adaptive techniques and equipment.
Scope of Practice: Focuses on rehabilitation and enabling participation in daily life activities, including self-care, work, and leisure. Strategically use to return to work after sick leave.

Psychoeducation

Role: Psychoeducation involves educating individuals and their families about mental health conditions and strategies for coping and managing these conditions.
Education and Training: Can be provided by various professionals including social workers, psychotherapists, and occupational therapists, with specific training in psychoeducation techniques.
Approach: Provides information and support to increase understanding and management of mental health issues, often through structured programs.
Scope of Practice: Aims to empower individuals with knowledge about their mental health conditions, improve adherence to treatment, and enhance overall coping strategies.
